Dmitri Basisty: Виды Каира с башни вполне захватывающие. И днем, и вечером. Главное - не попасть на очередь: на спуск и подъем работает 1 лифт на 6 человек, потому можно застрять в ожидании своей очереди. Цена повысилась - теперь 225 фунтов. Ресторан с крутящимся полом не советую: не стоит времени и денег: не вкусно и не уютно, хотя есть преимущественная посадка в лифт для посетителей ресторана. Внизу в палатке перед башней готовят вкусный турецкий кофе.

Construction was started in 1176 and finished in 1183, making it the most ambitious fortification project of its time.The Kurdish Sultan Saladin made Cairo the seat of his ever-extending Sultanate and had this massive citadel built to protect his realm against the Crusaders. The citadel is strategically located on a promontory of the Mokattam hills overlooking Cairo.At the time, there used to be another city called "Fustat" but the Kurds merged it with Cairo by extending Cairo's City Walls, thus encircling and protecting both cities. The citadel was later extended by other dynasties.Saladin carried a yellow flag emblazoned with a double-headed eagle as his personal standard (photo 10 is a reconstruction). A gablestone (photo 9) of this eagle can be found on the citadel. Stephanie Gunther: A must see spot in Cairo, the view is mind boggling! The interior of the mosque magical. The reason for only 4 rather than 5 stars is the plastic bootie over your shoes scam. Yes it is true that no shoes are allowed inside the mosque, but you can just take them off!! They charge you for the booties (after you have already paid the entrance fee), hundreds of visitors each day, imagine the turnover for a non-service and imagine all that single use plastic for no good reason at all. This is a hustle. Just take your shoes off. Easy peasy.

Just a metro ride away from the centre, the museum has an impressive collection of Coptic art. The collection includes wonderful late Roman and early christian works of art, impressive textiles and awesome manuscripts. The building with its gardens and annexes is a gem itself. Well worth a visit if you’re in Cairo.

It was founded by Marcus Simaika in 1908 to house Coptic antiquities.The museum traces the history of Egypt from its beginnings to the present day. It was erected on 8,000 square meter land offered by the Coptic Orthodox Church, under the guardianship of Pope Cyril V.The Coptic museum houses the world's most important examples of Coptic art and it was truly spectacular, the artifacts were breathtaking and the museum itself is very well-organized and everything was exhibited beautifully.I highly recommend checking out the museum whenever you’re in Coptic Cairo.
