Bellies En-Route: what do users think?
Christine Kosminsky: A highlight of our trip to Egypt. Really enjoyable, very well planned, interesting and great food.
Julia DeBari: Had a lovely downtown food tour with Fady! His excitement and passion for the city and food of Cairo, and all of Egypt, was wonderful to be a part of. His knowledge and friendliness made it feel like hanging out with a local friend. There were a lot of stops (between eight and ten), so make sure to pace yourself. It was around five hours. The tour was a mix of foods and drinks. It was such a wonderful experience with all sorts of different local foods and stories.Another thing I loved is none of the food is wasted if you can't or don't want to finish it. There is a zero waste policy, which I really appreciated. We've been on a lot of food tours around the world and this was definitely a highlight and at the top of our list and we will definitely recommend it to others.
Cat D: What a wonderful thing to do in Cairo. It was a highlight of our trip. We spent several hours walking around downtown, stopping at eateries and even going into kitchens for a closer look. A mix of beverag and food stops. And interesting local information from our guide. We were then able to enjoy the hotel egyptian brekkie options properly and with confidence, as well as restaurant options on our trip. This is definitely a must do in Cairo.
lambeth1993: The Bellies En-Route food tour was a must-do in Cairo, we couldn’t recommend highly enough - thanks so much to our tour guide Salma and her sidekick Amira. In an extremely busy city with mostly historical tourist sites, the food tour was a real contrast and a gateway to modern Cairo - we ate and drank at around ten different spots in downtown Cairo, mostly the kind of places that tourists would likely not find (certainly with our very limited Arabic!) Salma gave us a great amount of insight into modern culture as well as the food, which was a blend of traditional and modern Egyptian fare along with a couple of surprises. We were out for a few hours and ended up hanging out with some of the tour group into the evening. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting Cairo!
HJ Gibson: Loves our tour with Mia, this was by far the best thing we did in Cairo and made us feel at ease in the big city. Great food, great conversation, I highly recommend this company. Mia you are the best!!
Ola Morin-Muhammed: Unbelievably wonderful walking food tour experience in Cairo.
Emily Brungard: I had the best time on my downtown food tour with Miriam! She was a wealth of knowledge on all things Cairo and food. Her passion and excitement for the city and its food scene were clear. If (when!) I return to Cairo, I'll definitely book another tour with Bellies En-Route.
Arathi Kundu: This was definitely one of the best food tours that we have ever done. Our guide Amir Bishara and he was just Excellent!!! He and his team helped us get a flavor of Cairo and also gave us recommendations for our stay. Would definitely recommend this to any tourists visiting Egypt!!!
Prakirthi Yerram: We had an absolutely amazing time with Amir Selma and Inez on our food tour in downtown Cairo! We had a group of 10 of us and they were so patient, friendly, and accommodating. They catered all the stops to be vegetarian and we had a great time trying all the different foods and walking through downtown Cairo with our local guides. Highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves food and wants to explore Cairo in a fun and interesting way.
Jen Kaiser: We had a great downtown Cairo food tour with Amir. There were lots of delicious food and drinks, and it was fun to walk around and learn more about the neighbourhood. Definitely recommend - you won’t leave hungry!
Nick Leo: We had the best experience with Amir for both the Heliopolis and Best of Cairo. So knowledgeable and personable! I would highly recommend these experiences for anyone new to the area or any food lovers! We are so glad that we booked Bellies en Route!
Mike Pruyne: We just had a wonderful tour led by Amir. We appreciated his insights on local street art and architecture. The recommendation to pace yourself while eating should be taken seriously. We stopped at so many places to either sample a dish or beverage that you could easily become full. The tour was time well spent and an excellent way to explore downtown Cairo.
Ahmed Sherif: The best food Egypt has to offer
Marilynn Roa: We absolutely loved this experience! Miriam was super knowledgeable and took us around to different spots where we got to try foods we never would have thought to try on our own. If you want to experience Egypt though food, you have to book through the Bellies! We were so full at the end. I highly recommend booking at the beginning of your trip so that you can go back on your own to eat all the deliciousness again!
Nicholette Routhier: I'm in disbelief that I'm writing a review of a food tour because in reality, my experience of Bellies En-Route was of making new friends and immersing myself in a rich and vibrant culture. There aren't enough stars to quantify that, so I'll settle with 5. :)I first heard about Bellies En-Route on a podcast and I couldn't wait to experience this tour. I love that the business is woman-owned and it came from a genuine passion for Egyptian food and culture. When I met Laila, it was like meeting a celebrity. I was so excited to spend the next several hours with one of the co-founders of the business. And Laila was an incredible guide! She had us feeling safe, comfortable, and welcomed from the moment we launched the tour. Her breadth of knowledge of not only the food, but the neighborhoods and history that surrounded us, was vast and fascinating. The tour included behind-the-scenes sneak peeks into the making of a few of the signature dishes we tried, which made us appreciate the food and their chefs even more.Without giving too much away, I'll say that the tour is interactive and fun - it's much more than walking to a bunch of places and sampling their dishes. There was plenty of food...more than we could eat, in fact! And one detail I really loved about this tour was that Laila boxed up any leftovers we had and offered them to the homeless. Our conversations as we literally broke bread together were genuine and delightful. We left the tour full of food, flavors and friendship. After I got home, when people asked me my favorite parts of Egypt, I said, "the food and the people....oh, and the pyramids were pretty great too." I want to go back on the tour just to hang out with these awesome people and eat at these delicious restaurants again. I miss it all already!Don't miss this tour. It will be, hands down, the best part of your trip to Egypt.
Fatviv: You couldn’t ask for friendlier people to show you the culinary highlights of cario ! Thank you so much 😁If you want to eat amazing food look no further !
Sandy Fitzgerald: Thanks to the generosity of friends, I was so fortunate to take the “Downtown Food Tour” with Miriam and “Our Favorite Neighborhood Eats” with Amir! Both tours were 5 star! The guides were warm, kind and informative! I feel like I have two new friends in Cairo! I love that they support local, family-owned businesses. I always want my travel $$ to stay in and benefit the communities that are the reason I am visiting.I would not find these places or try these local foods on my own. Word of advice - go hungry!Bottom line - the guides were superb; the businesses were welcoming and anxious to please their customers; the food was delicious; and you get to explore and learn about the neighborhood with a knowledgeable guide!I highly recommend either one or both of these tours!
Gurjeet Dhami: We had such a great food tour with our amazing guide Mariam! We booked a private one for my husband and I. All of the food we ate was tasty and we were very full by the end! There was a nice mix of food, drinks, and dessert. I am vegetarian and I was able to eat everything (besides the bonus stop of fried cow brains!) I really liked how she took us to places we normally wouldn’t go because everything is in Arabic and we are English-speakers. We even got to go to the back and see how the tameya (falafel) were made and smell the delicious Arabic coffee. It was truly an authentic experience and I highly recommend this tour and company to anyone who visits Cairo!Mariam was very knowledgeable and showed us great hospitality. We feel like we have a friend in Cairo now because she was so welcoming and we got to know each other very well. She offered to help us with anything we needed in Cairo beyond the food tour. Thank you Mariam for giving us one of the best days we’ve had travelling in Egypt. We enjoyed meeting Hongru and we hope we see you both again some day. Shukrun!
Genevieve Knaus: Amazing food and I learned a lot about the history and culture of the surrounding neighborhood as well.
Dr. Marcell Greeff: Absolutely fantastic! This is a must-do activity when visiting Cairo. We really enjoyed this food walking tour.
