Fatma Albuainain: جروبي:مقهى عريق بميدان طلعت حرب اسسه جاكومو جروبي سويسري جاء إلى مصر في ثمانينيات القرن التاسع عشر، أنشأ مع ابنه مطعمًا ومتجرًا لبيع الحلوى يحملان اسمه في وسط القاهرة, لم يكن جروبي مجرد مطعم ومقهى على الطراز الفرنسيّ, وإنما جاء كمشروع ثقافي فكان يقيم العديد من الحفلات الراقصة, ويستقدم الفرق الموسيقيّة, ويعرض في حديقته الخلفيّة عددا من الأفلام السينمائيّة، نجد أن العاملين بمحل جروبي لا زالوا محتفظين بملابسهم الكلاسيكية الأنيقة فيرتدوا زياً مكوناً من قميص وبنطلون وسديري وبابيون، أدخل جروبّي إلى مصر للمرة الأولى أنواعا جديدة من الشيكولاتة والعصائر المركزة والمربى والجبن, وكرات مثلجة من الحليب والشيكولاتة وعصير الفواكه, وأنواع جديدة من الحلوى كانت اسمائها جديدة وقتها: كريم شانتي, مارون جلاسيه, جيلاتي, وغيرها، وتم تصوير العديد من الافلام العربية بالمحل اشهرها "العتبة الخضرا" و"يوم من عمرى" و"عمارة يعقوبيان"، و"صايع بحر" ومسلسل "جمهورية زفتى"قام "شيزار" و"بيانكى" آخر ورثة المحل عن جدهم ومؤسسه "جروبى"، ببيع المحل إلى الشركة العربية للأغذية سنه 1981م، قامت الشركة العربية للأغذية بالمحافظه علي طابع المحل التقليدي من حيث الشكل والمضمون.

Glenn Stedman: I cannot recommend this restaurant.Firstly the beer is served hot, this already puts customers off.The food is average, and definitely expensive when there is a seating charge of 5 EGP /person plus t4% tax and then a 12% service charge on top. So a 500EGP meal including drink will cost 665EGP.The owner allows the cat to climb on your table to try and eat your food, no effort to try and move the cat away.Then at the end of the meal when the bill is presented the owner states that the credit card machine doesn't work and must pay in cash.This is the game that many restaurants in Egypt play and the best solution is to say you don't have enough cash, the credit card machine then suddenly works.Owner deliberately wants cash so doesn't have to pay the tax to the Government and can pocket it.I would never go back to this restaurant.
